Why should I submit to so many search engines and directories?

Search engines and directories are the main source of traffic for almost every website online. Submitting to directories will increase your link popularity which is a very important factor when search engines rank your site.

How long does it take for search engines to list my site?

Each search engine or directory has their own configuration making the time it takes to get listed different on each site. Some directories index your site instantly, and some search engines can take between 6 and 12 weeks. Some search engines may fail your site if it cannot be accessed or the content is seen to be spam, or for other reasons.

What are META tags and how do they help?

META tags are used by some search engines to index your site, and others just to grab other information about your site such as the page title and description. You can find out much more information about META tags in your control panel, as well as help with creating these.

What search engines and directories do you submit to?

We submit your site to a wide range of search engines, through various methods, including manual submission. You can find a full list of search engines on our Search Engines page.

Will I receive spam once I submit my site?

When you submit your site to search engines and directories some may use your email address to send you confirmation that your site has been added, and some may add you into a newsletter. When you submit your site for automatic submission, you can choose to use your own email address, or your Visitors 2 You account, where we will receive the emails for you and display them in your control panel.

Why isn't my site listen in the search engines?

This occurs for a variety of reasons. Many search engine and directory sites require between 6 weeks up to 6 months to list a site. Your site could also be listed but not ranking properly.

Parts or all of my site are not yet ready, can I still submit my site?

If you feel your site is not ready for visitors, you should avoid submitting to search engines. This can cause your site to be badly indexed, fail submissionto many search engines and directories. You should take advantage of some of the tools within your Visitors 2 You control panel (within the ‘Be Web Ready’ section) to get your site ready before you submit your site.

Do you provide a report of my search submission?

Your Visitors 2 You control panel will give you a full list of search engines we have submitted to, failed and successful based on the results of the search engine at the time we placed the submission. You are also able to check if you are currently indexed using tools within the control panel.

Do you guarantee search positions?

Each search engine has its own algorithms and techniques for indexing sites and positioning them. This is the reason if you search for the same thing on Google, Yahoo and MSN, you will probably get different results for non specific searches. Because of this, no company canguarantee your search position. If you wish to guarantee your search results, you can go down the route of paid advertising with each search engine, however, your site will be listed in the sponsored sections of the results and not the natural search.

Will you submit my website monthly to the search engines?

Submitting your site every month will not actually help with your SEO. Once your site has been submitted to a search engine, they will hold that information and keep your site indexed unless you do something that is considered as spam in which case they may ban your site. In some cases submission every month may be considered as spam and in which case you will be removed from search engines rather than re-indexed.
